Troy Howard Middle School Drama Club Constitution

Preamble
The purposes of the Troy Howard Middle School Drama Club are to:

provide the students an opportunity to participate in a variety of theatrical areas, such as acting, singing, dancing, backstage crew, designing, building, etc.
expose the students to performing arts, including plays, musicals, playwriting, design, etc.
teach the students specific theater terms, acting techniques, etc.
allow any student the opportunity to participate in any way they feel comfortable.

Article 1: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Troy Howard Middle School Drama Club, also known as Center Stage Ensemble.

Article 2: Membership
Drama Club membership shall consist of any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader at THMS. Students do not need to participate in all activities or productions to be a member, but must participate in at least one production each school year.

Article 3: Eligibility
Drama Club members are bound by the RSU 20 and THMS rules governing student participation in extracurricular activities. Any disciplinary action taken by the drama club advisor and/or THMS administrator shall be based on these policies. Common violations include (but are not limited to) excessive and/or unexcused absences (from rehearsals and performances), harassment, insubordination, profanity, and disruption. Typical disciplinary action for most minor violations include talking to the student, parent, building administrator, or temporary removal from the production. Repeat offenders and/or significant violations will be permanently removed from the production.

Article 4: Officers
Officers of the Drama Club consist of two co-captains. Officers must be 7th or 8th graders. They are chosen each year by the advisor. They serve one school year. 7th grader officers may or may not return as an 8th grade officer based on their commitment.

Article 5: Duties of the Officers
Officers duties include (but are not limited to):

Helping advisor choose plays/musicals to perform.
Coordinate club meetings, rehearsals, etc.
Assisting with publicity, designs, points, etc.
Run preshow warmups.
Make morning announcements.

Article 6: Advisor
The advisor shall be an adult (most likely a staff member of THMS). He/She shall be responsible for all drama club activities, its members, and its property.

Article 7: Meetings
The Drama Club shall meet once each week from 2:30-3:30 during the school year when not involved in a production. Meetings will expose the students to acting games, vocal and physical warmups, as well as a time to conduct business, clean the stage, etc.

Article 8: Performances
During productions, rehearsals and crew work sessions will fluctuate. Rehearsal/work session times will usually be 2:30-4:30, unless otherwise posted. Performances will usually be at 7:00 p.m., with call times starting at 6:00 p.m. or earlier (unless otherwise posted). Evening performances usually run Thursdays – Saturdays. Matinees on Sundays are at 2:00 p.m., with call times at 1:00p.m. or earlier. Participation in strike is mandatory.
