parent snack help
In our effort to keep the cast members healthy during these times of colds and flu, we are looking for any parents willing to bring in healthy snacks for rehearsals. With the kids eating at 11:00 a.m. they are quite hungry by rehearsal time and could use a pick-me-up. If you could find a way to donate a little something that would be great!

What to look for in an audition
If you are wondering what we stage and music directors look for in middle school drama club auditions, here are some ideas.
- Be prepared. Read through the play beforehand, so you are familiar with the scenes being read for auditions.
- Be focused. Don’t fool around. Don’t go and talk with your friends. Be ready when it’s your turn.
- Listen to the director. If we tell you to do something, do it. If we tell you to try reading the scene a different way, do it.
- Be confident. Speak loud, clear, and slow enough to be understood. Get into character. Don’t be afraid to act in front of your peers. Don’t be afraid to sing out in front of everyone. If you sing a wrong note, don’t let it stop you.
- Remember you are always being watched. Even when you are reading a scene with someone else, keep acting when you’re listening to them. Don’t stop acting when it isn’t your line.
- Do it your way. If you are the umpteenth person to read a character, don’t just copy the people who did it before you.
- Smile. Show your warm and happy side, except when you are playing a character that isn’t. Even then, though, when the scene is done, put that smile back on.
- Be honest. If you have piano lessons or play basketball, put it on the audition form. Lying about it so you get the part you want, then missing rehearsals, will only get you in trouble.
- Make the commitment. It always infuriates a director when an auditioner says they will accept any role, then quits when they don’t get the part they want. This makes the director have to do a lot of extra work to fill that role. Think carefully before you say you’ll accept any role. But also don’t be too conceited to be will to accept a smaller part. Remember the old theater saying: “There are no small parts, only small actors.” This means every character in a play is an integral part of the overall story, although some people are not mature enough to see that.

Double cast performances explained
The goal is to have two casts for the musical. Each cast would rehearse at the same time. Performances would be split between casts. Cast ‘A’ would perform the first Friday and Saturday nights, and the second matinee. The ‘B’ cast would perform the first matinee and the second Friday and Saturday nights. Any cast members who are sick would be replaced by their counterpart from the other cast. Not every character may get double cast.
